2017 Snow

Friday morning we were leaving for work and to our surprise we found snow here at the Phillips Place! Snow in south Texas? Yes! It is not a very common event to happen in this part of Texas. Even though the snow did not last long, everyone we came in contact with Friday morning were in good spirits! My Facebook was full of pictures of families taking pictures of the snow! It was wonderful to see everyone so delighted! The snow was so beautiful it made everything for a moment look like a winter wonderland.

This picture was taken very early in the morning before the snow melted. The snow was white powdery snow.

The snow stayed for the most part of the morning but soon melted away. Although it was a short time, I feel it was a gift. Till next time be blessed.

Fall Decor

My home fall décor.

Dale and I plan to spend our Thanksgiving here at home with family. We make the traditional turkey, sweet potatoes, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes and my favorite crescent rolls! A little feast it is! Of course someone always brings a pecan pie for desert! Yum! Late in the evening, we will have a little campfire and relax and ponder about all the things to be thankful for.

I am so thankful for many things, like loved ones, health, etc. But this year I am specifically thankful that our home did not flood and plan to jot that down in my journal for Thanksgiving 2017.

Pictures of my fall home décor. My favorite are the pumpkins!

Front Stain Porch

Fall is the perfect time to paint or stain here in Texas! Even though it is a little warm, it’s not so HOT! Ha-ha! Happy to announce we finally had our front porch stained! Best part is we hired someone to do the job! Yay!

Dale and I like doing our own projects, but at the time, we had too many things on the burner and the porch was getting to the point were it desperately needed some attention. The hot summers can wear on decking.

I called Mark McKinney the painter and he was happy to do the job! Dale and Mark were both thinking that I would just pick a stain color and have the whole thing done easy breezy. (SMILE) In my mind’s eye I had a look I wanted. I originally wanted to paint the decking and lattice, but Dale said, “No paint.” His reasoning, “paint doesn’t last, paint peels and stain is easier to re-stain.” Mark brought me Sherwin Williams stain samples and to my surprise, they have wonderful stain colors! I choose a semi-transparent stain “White Birch,” for the railings and the lattice. For the deck and the stairs I choose a solid stain “Driftwood.”

The front porch looks absolutely perfect! It is exactly the way I pictured it in my mind! Happy to say that Dale was pretty impressed too! The porch reminds me of the beach. I wanted it to look light and airy and the stain compliments the house. I cannot wait to give it some curb appeal, but for now the stain needs to cure.

Master Bath

I love the double sinks and separate shower and tub this model had to offer.

The master bath was one of the decision makers for us! I love the double sinks and separate shower and tub this model had to offer. I also like the wall color, it’s like a brownish gray and I will not paint anytime soon, but I do have an idea about replacing the strips and trim later. The updates we have done so far, installed towel racks, toilet paper holder and Dale added some shelves inside the vanity for more storage. He also added some electrical strips, one inside the vanity to plug in our toothbrushes and another strip on the side of the vanity to easily plug my hairdryer.

As far as the décor I like to use plenty of towels and have displayed a couple of pieces of my milk glass collection and some blue pieces. My favorite décor piece is the vintage window displayed on the tub wall. I found this at Goodwill for $8.00! The wreath I purchased at an antique shop for under $20.00. I love the natural look of the twigs. The towel rack wall I found the “LOVE” sign at Wal-Mart for under $5.00! I put a nice collage picture frame next to the towel rack under the love sign and inserted pictures from our fourth wedding anniversary. It’s okay to put up candid pictures in your bathroom. I don’t worry about the humidity ruining them, these days you can always order more pictures very inexpensively. Every time I see our pictures they make me smile.

I do have plans to better costume this master bath and will keep you up to date!  Enough said! Enjoy the pictures!

I kept the décor pretty simple and it’s amazing how filling baskets with some hand towels makes it cozy. I like the dark bronze towel rack and paper holder and the dark picture frames, they stand out against the brownish gray wall. I wanted to add a colorful rug and choose the royal blue pattern which adds some much needed color.

Thank you so much for stopping by. Have a wonderful week, till next time!

Cup Hooks

This project was fairly easy and a quick one too! Adding the cup hooks made a big difference!

Today I am sharing with you our small home project. We actually have a few little home projects going on at the moment. Dale is working on installing a dimmer switch in the small bathroom and we are in the process of hanging a vintage light that we found a few years ago. I’ve also been busy taking pictures of our master bath for my next blog and can’t wait to share! But today it’s about cup hooks! Ha-ha!

One of the many things I like about our home is the kitchen cabinetry! We definitely have plenty of storage space, but felt like adding some cup hooks to the inside of our cabinets, would make it easier for me to reach for my coffee cups and leave more room for the dishes. This project was fairly easy and a quick one too! Sometimes the smallest things, makes life easier. Adding the cup hooks made a big difference!

Cup hooks found at Wal-Mart

We decided to install the hooks below the shelf above. Dale used a small drill bit to make it easier to screw in the hooks. The hooks were placed 6 inches apart.

Thank you for stopping by the Phillips Place! Happy Fall Y’all!

Our First Anniversary!

We have created so many memories here in such a short amount of time.! Happy One Year Anniversary!

Wow! I can’t believe it’s been a year since we moved into our new home! We have created so many memories here in such a short amount of time! We even survived Harvey, so very grateful! Thanksgiving was our first official dinner here, spent with family and friends. Afterwards, we held an open house celebration with a live band! Next event, we had our whole family here for Easter, egg toss and all! In between all this, installed a concrete driveway, side walk and stone garden patio. Some inside projects, customizing our pantry, laundry room and master closet. Wow! Sounds like a lot! Huh! One of our greatest memories was during the heat of summer! Fourth of July concert, featuring, family members jamming with their musical instruments. What fun! You see we are not all about just work! We do have some play time! Ha-ha!

To celebrate I wanted to share some pictures of our home décor. I like changing things up to reflect the time and seasons. So grab a cup of coffee and enjoy! Happy 1 Year Anniversary to us!

Small Bathroom

The bathroom originally came with a basic light fixture, nothing fancy but an easy fix!

Hello my friends! Today I wanted to show you our small bathroom. The bathroom originally came with a basic light fixture, nothing fancy but an easy fix! Changing a light fixture can really give a room a more custom look. We kept the light fixture that was in the Bonnell in my dressing room and replaced it. It was such a beautiful piece, we knew we could install in our new home. So happy we kept it! We then installed two new towel racks, one for the shower and the vanity and a new toilet paper roll.

Forgive me for some of the pictures that came out dark. It was hard to get good shots with no natural light.

Flood update. People here are still in the beginning stages of recovering. Many homes flooded in our neighborhood. We are waiting for the county to pick up the trash/debris. Last we heard from our commissioner is no definite date at this time.  Please pray for Texas and Florida.
