Dale & Elizabeth

Dale & ElizabethI’m Elizabeth and my wonderful husband’s name is Dale. We are in the process of renovating a 1987 mobile home. We purchased our property November 2010 and we have come a long way since! Through sweat, blood and tears and I do mean the good, bad and ugly! From a deer cabin to a place we call ” Home Sweet Home, ” you would be surprised! We would like to share some of our renovation experiences with you. My husband has some knowledge on construction, I have none! I’ve learned to hammer, saw and paint did I mentioned paint? We both make a good team! Dale’s quote, “I’m the designer and he is the builder!”

  1. I have just found you through Mobile and Manufactured Home living site. I get their e-mails. I live in an old 84′ double wide and it sure is difficult doing things on a fixed income. I have been in this home now for nearly 11 years and it’s time to get started on the things that I can do something about. The carpeting HAS TO GO. I have cleaned them to death and they still look horrible. Dogs have stained them and it’s gone right through to the sub-floor. It is blistered, we have chunks missing and more. The previous owner was a bit of a drunk and a carpenter, so I guess he decided to work indoors and ruined the floors. I am guessing I should replace the pieces of floor that are toast with plywood? I don’t have the money for lino but I can paint. Can you paint these press board floors? I am up in Canada, Victoria, BC to be exact and I was told they do not make a sealer that would work well enough to use before painting. Is there anything you can suggest that I can use until I can afford linoleum. They make such amazing linoleum now that you can’t tell if it is real hard wood or tile unless you actually get down and check. 🙂 I am thankful to have found you and really like what you have done with the place. Looks great and such a lovely kitchen now, however I did like the pale blue counter tops. Mine look like abused butchers block. Terrible, but that’s another day.

    1. Thank you for your compliments! I would seek out a second opinion on the sealer. My suggestion if you really want to paint the floors is to use OIL Based Primer Sealer to seal the floors. Then sand it a little bit. Then use a good quality Deck/Porch paint, that should last you for a while till you can cover your floors with linoleum. Another suggestion is when you take up your carpet, use a good utility knife, cut the carpet into 3 foot strips which will make it easier to roll up and handle. Plus will make it easier for the trash people to haul off. I hope these suggestions help. I would love to see what you have done! Please keep in touch!
