When we purchased our new manufactured home we knew we were going to make the third bedroom our future home theater and that is why we had the electrician add an extra outlet on a separate breaker to this room. Another important step, Dale applied MDF on the front wall so that he could make channels to cover up wires and the MDF would make it easier to mount the flat screen TV. Yet another step, Dale made vertical trim to hide speaker wires and installed more trim along the upper three walls to hide additional wires and to add LED lights. Let’s talk about the walls! Dale chose a paint color that had a low (light reflectance value). You can find the LRV number on the back of your paint sample. For a home theater you want the walls to be as non reflective as possible. The ceiling color is by Sherwin Williams, Dovetail and the wall color is by Sherwin Williams, Aviatrix. The last step and final step was making sound panels for the room. Walls in any home are going to have an echo sound. Applying acoustic sound panels helps in dampening the room so you get better sound.
The media room has turned out better than I expected!! Just an FYI! Dale designed this room himself! He chose the paint colors, fabrics, ceiling light, LED lights, sofa and the television. Dale already had most of the stereo equipment.
Who would have thought about having a media room in a mobile home! This is why I started my blog, to prove that you can custom your home (mobile home) and make it your own! The manufactured home industries are getting better. Some floor plans are including media rooms! How exciting!
A custom home theater can be very expensive, thousands and thousands of dollars! Making our own acoustic sound panels saved us about $600.00. It cost us $325.00 doing it ourselves! The total media room project cost us $2,500 which includes the new flat screen TV.
We plan to add a few more little details to the room and we will keep you up to date as they happen. But for now!

Dale and I love listening to music! So much so, we have a Receiver & CD player in the spare bedroom. Dale installed speakers in the dining room and to the outside back porch. We can listen to music just about anywhere around the house. I think I’ll have to blog about that! Ha-ha!
I hope you enjoyed looking through the pictures of our Media Room! It’s been an interesting home project! I think this has been the most fun DIY we’ve done! Dale has done a WONDERFUL job at making his vision for this room come to life! I feel lucky to be a part of it!
Till next time! Dale & Elizabeth Phillips
