Kitchen Island Part 1

The Plan

  1. Install dishwasher.
  2. Install garbage disposal.
  3. Replace and extend counter for a breakfast bar.
  4. Install new sink and faucet.
  5. Add wainscoting and trim to the outside of the island.
  6. Paint.

Our home did not have a dishwasher or a garbage disposal. I had come to accept I would never have either. While starting our kitchen renovations my husband just asked me, “Would you like a dishwasher?” I thought to myself is this a trick question! Ha-ha! I said to him, “Seriously?” Dale was willing to install a dishwasher since we went with Formica and not the granite counter tops. I then asked, “Can we have a garbage disposal too?”

My husband install the dishwasher first, which entail making space for the dishwasher, extra plumbing and electrical work.

 Electrical work.

As much as I dislike taking away storage space for a dishwasher; I must say, I am enjoying my dishwasher. Thank goodness I have a good size pantry to make up for that.

I don’t mind washing dishes by hand from time to time, but having a dishwasher comes in handy when we have company. Now I just stick the dishes in the dishwasher and their out of sight!

Thank you for stopping by the Phillips Place Renovation, have a good day!
